ThingMagic Case Study - Disney Family Cancer Center

 Providence Health Services

Nephew of Walt Disney, Roy E. Disney passed away from stomach cancer at the age of 79. Years earlier, he and his family donated a generous $10 million to Providence Medical Center and, along with donations from surrounding businesses and organizations, raised the $36 million necessary for completion. The major goal of the new center was to heal mind, body and spirit simultaneously, incorporating the healing power of nature and Roy’s love for the ocean. The center also wanted to keep a personal feel throughout the facility so patients would feel relaxed and at home. In order to accomplish this, a comprehensive RFID system was installed with the idea that just by entering a room, a patient’s music, lighting and temperature preferences could be adjusted immediately and automatically.
