Webinar: Making RFID Easy to Use

This webinar will cover ThingMagic's commitment to ease-of-use and the development tools available with our RFID readers.  We will highlight the ThingMagic Universal Reader Assistant which is used to initialize RFID readers and perform common tasks such as selecting application-specific performance settings. Participants will learn how these capabilities allow users to recognize the benefits of RFID faster and make it easier for our partners to sell and support ThingMagic products.

Configuring ThingMagic UHF RFID Readers to Support Fast Moving Tags
The industry-standard Gen2 protocol used in ThingMagic® modules and fixed-position readers was designed to inventory large quantities of stationary tags, but options provided in the protocol also make it ideal for applications where a small population of fast moving tags must be read rapidly. These applications are supported by ThingMagic’s Fast Search™ mode which automatically optimizes many of the settings required for reading fast moving tags, and provides additional user-accessible settings to increase performance further if necessary.

Performance Optimization for Diverse RFID Tag Populations
Measures of RFID reader performance such as tag reads per second and read range are important to many applications, but they are not the only (and may not be the most critical) data points to evaluate when determining which reader is best for your solution.  This Application Brief offers several examples and charts of ThingMagic RFID reader performance and the features available to “tune” reader performance in scenarios when many tags are in the field, when few tags must be read repeatedly, or when tag population changes radically over time.

Basic GEN2 Protocol Settings Demystified
The EPCglobal Gen2 protocol was designed to accommodate a wide variety of applications, so nearly every aspect of its operation can be adjusted to optimize its behavior for a particular set of requirements. Out of the box, ThingMagic readers are configured to perform well in average circumstances, and many users never have to touch the Gen2 settings. For those that must, the information provided here will make optimization of the reader’s performance a simple step-by-step process.

Determining Asset Directionality with UHF RFID Technology
UHF RFID technology is being widely adopted for tracking asset movement, theft prevention and lost asset recovery. Solutions are being deployed in a variety of industry verticals including healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, IT data centers, construction and education. Monitoring only the last known location of an asset is often not sufficient in many applications as it does not give information about the direction in which the asset was moving in order to intelligently predict its next location. This is driving the requirement for RFID systems to report directionality in addition to the asset identity and location.

Designing Bulk Encoding Applications Using UHF RFID Technology
UHF RFID is becoming increasingly popular in the retail market, particularly for tagging apparel, due to its cost effectiveness, ease of use, scalability and reliability. To improve supply chain visibility, many retailers would like apparel suppliers to affix tags to items at the point of manufacture. This results in the need to encode the tagged items at a later point in time, often after they have been packaged. This application note describes how one might design a robust bulk encoding system using ThingMagic UHF RFID technology.

Managing the Firmware Upgrade Process with ThingMagic Enterprise Readers
Managing and updating firmware on large populations of networked readers can be difficult and time consuming. As RFID deployments evolve and become more complex, additional functionality like the ability to read sensors, detect counterfeit tags, or check tamper alarms, will likely be provided via firmware upgrades. To reduce this effort and centralize the firmware upgrade process, ThingMagic’s enterprise readers contain a software feature, known as 'Auto-Upgrade'. This application note describes how one can manage the upgrade process using ThingMagic UHF RFID technology.
